Piatra Craiului Mountains

The Piatra Craiului mountains are a Nature Reserve of Romania.
They form a narrow and saw-like ridge, which is about 25 km (16 mi) long. The highest elevation in the massif is the “Vârful Omul” at 2,238 metres (7,343 ft). The ridge is regarded as one of the most beautiful sites in the Carpathians.
The two-day north-south ridge trail is both challenging and rewarding. Starting at either Plaiul Foii in the north-west or Curmătura in the north-east, walkers climb up to the ridge before following a somewhat precarious path along the narrow spine. The descent at the southern end leads into a karst landscape of deep gorges and pitted slopes where water penetrating the rock has carved a series of caves.

Brasov

Fringed by the peaks of the Southern Carpathian Mountains and resplendent with gothic, baroque and renaissance architecture, Brasov is one of the most beautiful and visited places in Romania.
Brasov DowntownBrasov was founded, in 1211, by the Teutonic Knights, on an ancient Dacian site. In the 13th-Century Brasov was settled by the Saxons and shortly became one of Transylvania’s seven walled citadels Siebenburgen.
The location of the city at the intersection of trade routes linking the Ottoman Empire and western Europe, together with a friendly tax regime, allowed Saxon merchants to obtain considerable wealth and exert strong political influence in the region. This was also reflected in the city’s name, Kronstadt (German) or Corona (Latin), meaning the Crown City.
Strong fortifications defending towers were erected and maintained with funding provided by the town’s craft guilds.

Sighisoara

It is a popular tourist destination for its well-preserved walled old town, which is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Settlement of the area dates from the Bronze Age and, later, the era of Roman Dacia, but the town itself originated in the 12th century when it was colonized by Saxon Germans. In the 14th century, they secured its designation as a free city, enabling it to become an important centre of trade by the second half of the 16th century. Much of the lower town had to be rebuilt after being ravaged by fire in 1676.
